You know, the funny thing is that the artist hasn’t made any comments about what the short is about. He just wanted to animate an interpretive dance.
However, he did fashion an entire art show around the piece, and in the gallery with it is a wall that has 100 different interpretations people have written about it.
Can you believe that? To make something that can touch people in 100 completely different ways. It blows my mind, since when I watched it I was SO SURE my interpretation was exactly what it must mean.
(That the woman was a some sort of otherworldly being, and she gave it up to be a mortal and be with the man, and then he decided he didn’t want her anymore now that she was normal.)
But people have left comments about them being ghosts, or he’s a soldier going off to war, or they lost their child and can’t overcome it, etc. And the artist has acknowledged them as all being equally valid. I know that often intent has no purpose in art, but to make something SO gorgeous, and open to SO many viable interpretations…just wow.I already posted this, and I’m a little surprised to see it pop up on my dash, haha. This was done by one of the professors at my school, one that I hope to study from. Some of his sketches are up in the hallway outside his office, and they’re really cool!
